Our Festival 2021: (In)Visible

Our call for the Festival contre le racisme Ulm/Neu-Ulm 2021

In 2021, the Festival contre le racisme (fclr) Ulm/Neu-Ulm will take place for the 6th time. This year we question the prevailing power structures of our democracy. What is visible in our society? And what is not? Why is it like that? And why does it have to change?

Fewer opportunities, less money, less time, less security - these are the effects of structural disadvantage. Many people are affected by this: People who have experienced racism, people with disabilities, people in the LGBTQIA* community and women in general, to name a few. Those affected do not have the same access to resources such as housing, educational qualifications, healthcare, power, participation, recognition and money. As a result of this systematic discrimination, they feature less in public, economic and political discourse. They are invisible! Their concerns are not taken into account. Power structures are consolidated and expanded. Whoever writes the story determines what is told. Whoever determines the public discourse dictates the zeitgeist. This is particularly evident in the corona pandemic. Due to the increasing pressure, the debate is becoming harsher and existing grievances are becoming more obvious. The propensity for violence in society is demonstrably on the rise. Racism and discrimination are real, they oppress and hurt. Group-related misanthropy is a problem that affects society as a whole, influencing the attitudes, thinking and language of all people. Because it starts with language and ends with Hanau. It is a threat on an existential level. It must be decisively countered.

The fclr Ulm/Neu-Ulm 2021 has the motto InVisible. With lectures, workshops and exhibitions, we want to raise awareness about racist and discriminatory acts. We show the underlying mechanisms and give examples of how to counteract them. Let's look closely and uncover blind spots in society! It is about learning and unlearning as well as fighting discriminatory behavior actively, resolutely and together. For a fairer society in which the existing diversity is also reflected politically and in everyday life!
The Festival contre le racisme with the theme "InVisible" will take place this year from 19 June to 9 July in and around Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
