When was the last time you walked around the city and actively paid attention to street names, monuments and bridge names? Have you ever thought about who they are named after? Who these people were? Or what the historical genesis of a business is?

Even if we don't always perceive our living spaces so actively, it matters what public places are named after or who they are named after. Naming places shapes the cityscape and gives a historical insight the city's history. On our postcolonial walking tour in Ulm we want to get on the track of this.

We orientate ourselves on the work of the Kollektiv Ulm-Raum, which emerged from the festival contre le racisme and dealt with critical places and street names. Specifically, we would like to address the postcolonial history of the city of Ulm.

The interactive tour starts on 09.07.22 at 4pm at the southern Münsterplatz, leads through the city center, via the main station to the Danube, and ends after about 2 hours also back at the Münsterplatz. You will learn more about the different places, the historical events and also how they are dealt with differently. Together we will then consider how we would like to redesign the city.

The tour is suitable for people of all ages, especially children. No prior knowledge or anything like this is necessary. We have already offered the walk last summer. We will provide water and there will be mostly the possibility to stand in the shade. Make sure you have adequate sun protection and whatever else you need.
